Why dance? Just ask these fifth graders who participated in Chicago Public School’s newly launched “Having a Ball” program.
I like ballroom dancing because I made lots of friends and I loved all the dresses and being praised for doing such a good job. Ballroom dancing was a great honor. I loved everything. Zorbari age 11
I love Ballroom because it was cool and it was so so fun. I loved the clothes and it was great to see all the people and I wish that some day we will be famous. I love ballroom dancing. It was great. Jennifer age 11
There are a few reasons why I like ballroom dancing. I really enjoyed it because I got to make new friends. At first, I didn’t even want to be by boys, but once I got used to it, I wanted to come to school every day to practice. I even got to talk on national television. Ballroom is the best thing that happened to me. Diana age 10

The thing I liked about Ballroom Dancing was learning the steps, that was fun. Also, I liked getting to go and compete against other schools and winning a gold and a silver metal. That was a great feeling. I love it, too bad the competition is over. Torkeshea age 12.

I like ballroom because you can learn new dances and learn how to be a proper lady. You also dance with kids in your class or kids in another class that you don’t know. Chanavia age 11
