When it comes to tights you have to be comfortable. Chicago Dance Supply offers a wide selection of tights with different textures, styles, and material. When choosing a tight it is important to know what material is best for you.
The two main brands we carry for adult and children’s dance tights are Leo’s Dancewear and Eurotard. In the Leo’s brand we have Economy, Lycra Spandex Shimmery, and Supplex tights. Economy tights are 100% Nylon and the material is very soft and thin. This is a standard tight– great for children who are still growing because it is inexpensive. However, this material is not recommended for adults because it is not very durable. Lycra Spandex Shimmery tights are 92% Nylon and 8% Spandex and the material is heavy weight. This is the perfect tight for performances because it smooths and defines the contours of the legs. Its thick material makes this tight very supportive. Supplex has 87% Nylon and 13% Spandex and is very opaque and soft. The fabric is tightly woven compared to the Economy and Lycra Spandex Shimmery. Supplex is very durable with high elasticity to retain it’s original shape, a firm fit to support the muscles, and highly breathable.
The Eurotard tight that we carry is called EuroSkins and is made of microfiber. EuroSkins are run resistant, seamless, durable, ultra soft, great elasticity to retain shape, and very breathable. It is made of 89% Nylon and 11% Spandex and like the Leo’s Supplex it is tightly woven. Microfiber tights and Supplex tights are very comparable. When these fabrics get wet both dry quickly which is ideal for sweat. The one difference is that Microfiber is woven with thinner fibers creating a very lightweight silky material.
So which do you prefer? Supplex or Microfiber? Let’s hear your thoughts!
