Last week CDS had the pleasure to visit Northside Dance Theater school located on Glenwood Ave Arts District in Rogers Park. This new and upcoming school offers a variety of classes such as ballet, jazz, tap, modern, and hip-hop for adults and children. Studio owner, Jennifer Gage, took the time to give us a lovely tour of her vibrant new school.
As you walk through the front door you are welcomed by the reception desk and on the back wall is a large assortment of photos of dancers. The large windows light up the room and to the left is a colorful sitting area for parents and dancers to relax. From there we walked to the first studio that displayed beautiful hardwood floors, barrs, and large mirrors. Next stop was the dressing rooms and then around the corner was the second large studio equipped with a large flat screen TV to use for rehearsals, marley floors, and ceiling high windows. This larger studio is also used for studio performances and rehearsal space for school affilitated company, GI Alliance, and other Chicago dance companies.
There is a great variety of classes for children and adults. Children as young as three years old can start in Creative Movement. Other children classes include jazz, ballet, tumbling, and tap. Adult classes include Pilates, ballet, tap, jazz, modern, pointe, hip-hop, GI Alliance Rep intensive, and our favorite a Mom’s and Dad’s class! Instead of sitting and waiting for your kid’s to be done with class why not take a class just for you at the same time? The Mom’s and Dad’s class is scheduled during the children’s Pre-Ballet. This adult beginner class focuses on basic dance concepts in styles such as jazz and ballet. In addition to the Mom’s and Dad’s class, Pilates is also available on Saturday during the Pre-Ballet class.
If you live around Rogers Park or looking for a new dance studio, we recommend that you check out Northside Dance Theater!
